Cherry Creek Speech & Debate Society
PaWelcome to the Speech & Debate Society – the official “booster club” for Speech and Debate parents at Cherry Creek High School.
The booster club serves two major functions: we raise funds and we provide volunteers. Our purpose is to support the program so the coaches can concentrate on running the program and working with the students.
One of the reasons our program is consistently ranked among the top teams in the country is due to our parent support group. Here’s the good news: you are already a member by having a child in the Speech and Debate program. Even if your son or daughter says (and I can virtually guarantee that you will hear this!) “You don’t have to come…You aren’t allowed to come...I don’t want you to come…to my tournaments,” there are numerous ways you can get involved:
Volunteer: You can judge, bake, judge, work food concessions at the home tournaments, judge and bake some more! We also need help with our community events, Speech Night & Silent Auction, and our Annual Banquet.
Donate: Our unique program needs additional funds to help us compete locally and nationally. While there are no mandatory fees for Speech and Debate, unlike sports and other activities, your donations are critical to the success of our program. We ask every student to raise a minimum of $125 for the team. Annual donations of any amount are welcome. You can also check with your place of employment, as many firms will match your donation. Supporting our fundraising events is another way to help us maintain a high level of success and experience for all our students.
Judge: We need judges for the tournaments Cherry Creek High School hosts. Any adult can do this. Training is provided for first-time judges and you will have the time of your life! Although you will not be able to judge your own child, you will have a chance to experience first hand what your child does at a tournament. We guarantee that you will see the best and brightest speakers and debaters in Colorado. By judging, you help ensure that our students get the most out of the tournaments and the program.
Join the Board. Board meetings provide a great opportunity to become involved in the Speech and Debate program. We always need more parent input at Society board meetings, and strongly encourage everyone to attend. We meet in Marti Benham’s classroom- Fine Arts 625. Check the schedule for the dates of the meetings. Please join us!
Please feel free to contact any of the board members with questions or ideas.
